Introduction
In a historic political moment, Nitish Kumar was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Bihar for the 10th time on Thursday. The grand ceremony took place at Patna’s iconic Gandhi Maidan, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, several Union Ministers, and Chief Ministers of NDA-ruled states.
The oath ceremony marked the beginning of a new NDA government in Bihar, led by the JDU–BJP alliance.
A Ceremony Marked by Political Power and Symbolism
Nitish Kumar, once again at the helm of Bihar’s governance, took the oath alongside Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha — both of whom served as Deputy Chief Ministers in the previous government.
A total of 26 ministers were inducted into the new cabinet, representing:
- BJP
- JDU
- Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas)
- Hindustani Awam Morcha
- Rashtriya Lok Morcha
The cabinet also includes three women ministers and one Muslim minister, reflecting a degree of social diversity within the alliance.
Representation of Women and Minorities
Among the 26 ministers:
- Leshi Singh (JDU)
- Rama Nishad (BJP)
- Shreyasi Singh (BJP)
These three women legislators represent various regions and communities, strengthening female representation in the cabinet.
The lone Muslim minister is:
- Mohammad Zama Khan (JDU) — winner from Chainpur constituency.
Unanimous Election as NDA Leader
On Wednesday, during the NDA legislative party meeting attended by 202 MLAs, Nitish Kumar was unanimously chosen as the leader of the alliance. JDU separately reaffirmed him as its legislative party leader, clearing the path for his 10th term as Chief Minister.
