Prime Minister Rishi Sunak actively participated in a coordinated effort with UK Home Office enforcement officials to crack down on illegal migration. This nationwide operation resulted in the arrest of 105 foreign nationals from various countries representing 20 different nationalities.

In order to observe the Immigration Enforcement officers in action during their “day of action,” Sunak, who is 43 years old, wore a bulletproof vest and attended one of the operations in Brent, north London, earlier this week.

Sunak, a prominent British Indian leader, has prioritized tackling illegal migration as a key focus of his government in preparation for an upcoming general election expected next year. UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman emphasized the negative impacts of illegal working, including its harm to communities, unfair competition for honest workers, and the loss of tax revenue.

The Home Secretary reiterated the government’s commitment, as outlined by the Prime Minister, to address the exploitation of laws and borders. Operations like the one carried out that day send a strong message that such activities will not be tolerated.

The nationwide operation took place on Thursday, with Immigration Enforcement officers conducting 159 raids on suspected establishments involved in illegal work. During these raids, a total of 105 foreign nationals were apprehended for working without the necessary authorization.

The apprehensions occurred at various commercial establishments such as restaurants, car washes, nail bars, barber shops, and convenience stores. The individuals were arrested on charges related to illegal employment and possession of counterfeit documents. Additionally, authorities seized amounts of cash during the operation conducted at certain premises.

Out of the total number of arrests made, more than 40 individuals were held by the Home Office for further proceedings to facilitate their removal from the UK. The remaining suspects were released on immigration bail while their cases are being processed.
